A seven-year-old child is among three injured in a crash in Co Monaghan.

The two-car crash occurred on the N2 at Annamarran near Carrickmacross.

The driver of one of the cars, a woman aged in her 30s, and a seven-year-old girl that was a passenger were taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Louth.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her late 50s, was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin.

The crash happened shortly before 3pm yesterday.

The road reopened after an examination of the site by gardaí.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.
