Three men have been arrested in Co Armagh as part of a joint Garda and Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) operation.

Eight million cigarettes - worth an estimated £3 million in lost tax revenue to the Northern Irish economy - were seized.

Gardaí and Revenue assisted the PSNI and HM Revenue and Customs during a Joint Agency Task Force operation this morning.

Three men, aged 34, 37 and 55, were arrested by officers from HM Revenue and Customs.

Members of An Garda Síochána and Revenue officials also carried out seven searches in the Carlingford area of Co Louth as part of the operation.

A number of vehicles, cash and other items were seized during those searches.

They included approximately €100,000 in cash, two and a half tonnes of raw tobacco with a street value of €1.55 million, equipment for the manufacture of tobacco products and mobile fuel laundering machinery.
