There is widespread shock across the Donegal farming community following the tragic death of a popular man from Inishowen.
Carndonagh man Kevin McElhinney, who was in his early 40s, sustained fatal injuries in a tragic accident while working on his farm on Friday evening.
A native of Glack, the father-of-five came from a well-respected farming family and his untimely death has devastated the local community.
It is understood Mr McElhinney was clearing trees when part of one fell on him.
Carndonagh-based Councillor Albert Doherty said the death has been an 'awful shock' to the community.
"The community is just gutted that a young man has been taken from us in such a tragic accident.
"It's an awful shock that he could be whisked from us in a moment and our sympathies go out to Cathy and their five children who are now left without a loved one," Cllr Doherty said.
Chairman of Inishowen Agricultural Show, Charlie Doherty Kinnego (Jnr), a friend and former school mate of the late Mr McElhinney, said he was a hugely popular and well-liked man in the wider farming community.
"Kevin would do anything for anyone, and put your job before his. This has been a real shock to the whole community and our thoughts are with his family."
Mr McElhinney is survived by his partner Cathy, five children, extended family and friends. Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday at 1pm in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Carndonagh, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
