A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were stabbed in Co Derry last night.

The women, who were both 22 years old, were attacked while walking close to Beresford Avenue in Coleraine at around 11.25pm.

They were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening at present.

The 17-year-old boy was detained shortly after the incident and remains in custody.

The PSNI have said witnesses saw two males running away from the scene of the attack.

They have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
