A body exhumed in Co Sligo is not that of missing Tyrone schoolgirl Arlene Arkinson, her family has said.
Arlene, 15, from Castlederg in Co Tyrone, disappeared after a night out in Co Donegal in 1994.
She was last seen in the company of convicted child killer Robert Howard, who was cleared of her murder but remains the main suspect.
Tests were carried out on remains that were found in Co Sligo.
Arlene’s sister Kathleen Arkinson told the BBC: "My hope in finding the remains of my sister, Arlene, have been dashed again."
Howard died in a UK prison in 2015 while serving a life sentence for rape and murder.
It is now thought that the remains are those of a person legitimately buried in the grave concerned.
RTÉ News understands that as a result of local rumours dating from the 1990s about the presence of a body in a grave in the county, it was decided to carry out an examination of the burial place.
The body was exhumed last March and following detailed forensic examination was found to be that of a man legitimately buried in a family grave.
