Glenties in Co Donegal made news last St Patrick's Day when its parade set off at a minute past midnight, the first in the country.
But plans to repeat the success of last year with another early morning parade have had to be abandoned.
The Glenties parade has been cancelled this year primarily because of the unavailability of marching bands.
The organisers took the unanimous decision to cancel the parade, saying "every avenue had been exhausted to try to make it work but it just couldn't be done."
Back in 2012, the Glenties parade also hit the headlines when it set out to beat the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people dressed as leprechauns gathered in the one place.
It was up against Bandon in Co Cork which also set out to beat the record and after a tight and colourful contest Bandon won with 1,263 leprechauns to Glenties' 1,024.
