SIPTU workers in the Kerry Foods plant in Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan are staging a 24-hour work stoppage.
The dispute is over redundancies at the factory.
It is the first of three 24-hour work stoppages, the others are planned for 13 and 20 March.
SIPTU says that over 300 of it members work in the plant.
