Almost half a million euro in funding has been announced for three Donegal off-shore islands.
Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Joe McHugh, announced that €450,750 will be provided to Donegal County Council to carry out improvement works on various islands in the county in 2017.
Matching funding from the Council will bring the investment to over €600,000.
Over half of the money will go to the largest island, Árainn Mhór where €244,500 will be spent on over 4km of road improvements including the road from the pier.
Extensive works will also take place on Toraigh costing €187,500 while €18,750 will be invested on Oileán an Bhráighe for causeway repairs.
Funding for other islands in the state was announced three weeks ago.
Mr McHugh said today: "This financial assistance being provided by my Department to Donegal County Council facilitates the improvement of infrastructure on Donegal's islands and it is further evidence of my Department's commitment to supporting our offshore islands.
"The islands and its inhabitants are an important part of who we all are as a nation and providing infrastructural improvements is key to improving and enhancing island life."
