The Office of Public Works will not be granting permission for a pro-Russia rally in Dublin's Phoenix Park this weekend.

Members of the Russian community here had planned to gather to mark 'Victory Day' to commemorate Russia's defeat of the Nazis in World War II.

The OPW said it received an application for an event at the Papal Cross last January, before Russia invaded Ukraine.

In a statement this evening the OPW said "the organisers were requested to provide a signed indemnity form, to submit an event safety management plan and to provide the relevant insurance cover.

"The organisers were also required to meet with the OPW and An Garda Síochána."

The OPW said all these requirements have not been met and it is not in a position to grant permission for the event.
