A 24-year-old man, accused of trying to smuggle ten guns and ammunition into the UK, has been remanded in custody.
Khalid Ahmed, of Ealing in west London, who is a dual Dutch and Irish national, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
He was stopped at the Port of Dover last Thursday by counter-terrorism police after arriving from Calais in France.
When officers searched Mr Ahmed’s vehicle, it is alleged that they found ten self-loading pistols and ammunition hidden behind the seats.
Some of the guns were loaded, the court was told.
Mr Ahmed, a construction worker who was born in Amsterdam, did not enter pleas to ten counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and one charge of possession of ammunition.
He was remanded in custody until a hearing at the Central Criminal Court on 24 April.
