The shared challenges in providing affordable childcare places in both the UK and Ireland was a focus of bilateral discussions today between Minister for Children Norma Foley and her counterpart, Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson.
Ms Foley met with Ms Phillipson at her department in London this afternoon, as part of a five-day visit to the UK capital to mark St Patrick's Day.
During their meeting, both Ms Foley and Ms Phillipson also discussed growing demand for special education places in both countries.
Over the course of her visit to the British capital, Ms Foley will meet with several Irish organisations including the London Irish Centre, where she will meet with staff members who work with survivors of Irish mother and baby homes.
Ms Foley will also attend an event in the Irish embassy this week to remember the Irish writer, Edna O'Brien.
On Sunday, London will host its annual St Patrick's Day parade, which will be attended by Ms Foley and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
