A man accused of murdering elderly Irishman Thomas O'Halloran in London has been remanded in custody for medical treatment.

Lee Byer, 44, of no fixed abode, has denied murdering the 87-year-old grandfather in Greenford, West London, on 16 August.

Mr O'Halloran, who was a native of Co Clare, was on a mobility scooter when he was attacked and was well known in the area where he often busked for charity.

Today, Judge Mark Lucraft in the Central Criminal Court in the Old Bailey heard an application to extend time in custody.

The judge was told the defendant will be receiving treatment and that a report will be ready after eight to 12 weeks.

The case will be up for mention on 15 December.

The trial is listed for April next year.
