A second person has died following a crowd crush at the O2 Brixton Academy in London last Thursday, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Gabrielle Hutchinson, 23, was one of several people injured during the crush while working as security at the venue.

She died in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

"It is devastating news that a second person has lost their life following the events on Thursday," Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove of the Metropolitan Police said.

"I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to Gabrielle's family at this unimaginably difficult time."

Thirty-three-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo died from her injuries on Saturday.

Emergency teams were called to the venue on Thursday night after reports that a "large number of people were attempting to force entry to the venue", police said.

A concert by Nigerian Afrobeats singer Asake had been taking place.

Officers, ambulance crews and fire brigade responders arrived to find numerous people with injuries caused by the crush.

Eight people were taken to hospital by ambulance while two "less seriously injured" were treated at the scene.

A 21-year-old woman remains in a critical condition in hospital.
