Police in the UK have launched an appeal to identify a man whose body was recovered from a canal in 1981.
The man's body was taken from the Grand Union Canal at Southall in London and despite extensive inquiries at the time and other inquiries over the last 40 years, he has never been identified.
PC Maddie Kerketta, of the Met’s West Area Safeguarding Unit, said: "This man was a son to someone, a family member and likely a friend to others.
"There may be a family somewhere who have spent years wondering what happened to their loved one."
"If you can help us finally identify him so that his family and friends can be notified please don’t hesitate to get in touch."
The man was white and aged between 25 to 30 years old.
He was 1.80m (5’11") tall, of medium build, with thick brown hair worn short and had a slight beard. He also had crooked teeth and a small scar on his stomach.
Police are hoping the appeal, which forms part of a cold case review, may prompt someone to think about a family member or friend that they lost touch with 40 years ago who looked similar to the artist's impression that was compiled based on how the man looked at the time of his death.
