Services have resumed at Birmingham Airport in Britain, after an air traffic control fault had temporarily suspended services, the airport has said.

In a statement, the airport said it was fully operational.

"Following the earlier Air Traffic Control technical fault, Birmingham Airport has now resolved the issue and operations have now resumed," it said.

"We thank passengers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this has caused," it added.

It is unclear if the disruption has led to delays in many flights, but the airport had advised passengers to check with their airline regarding departures and arrivals.

Flights were affected by the fault from around 6pm.

It is the latest flight disruption to hit the UK, after Gatwick was brought to a standstill when drones were spotted over the runway.

Around 1,000 flights were cancelled or diverted at the UK's second biggest airport over the incident.
