A nurse who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of eight babies and the attempted murder of six other infants at a British hospital has been bailed pending further inquiries, Cheshire Police said.
Lucy Letby, 28, was arrested on Tuesday as part of the "highly complex and very sensitive investigation" into the deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
In a statement, police said: "Cheshire Police can confirm that the woman arrested on Tuesday 3 July has now been bailed pending further enquiries.
"We continue to recognise that this investigation has a huge impact on all of the families, staff, and patients at the hospital as well as members of the public. Parents of all the babies continue to be kept fully updated and are being supported throughout the process by specially trained officers.
"This is an extremely difficult time for all the families and it is important to remember that, at the heart of this, there are a number of bereaved families seeking answers as to what happened to their children. We would like to remind the media to respect the privacy of the families involved.
"This investigation is very much ongoing and there are no set timescales at this stage but as soon as we are able to provide any further updates we will do."
Healthcare worker arrested over deaths of eight babies at UK hospital
Detectives launched an investigation into infant deaths at the hospital in May last year, initially looking at the deaths of 15 babies between June 2015 and June 2016.
On Tuesday, police said the probe had widened to include 17 deaths and 15 non-fatal collapses of babies between March 2015 and July 2016.
Officers arrived at the nurse's home in Chester on Tuesday and police were also seen at her parent's property in Hereford later that day.

It is understood that Ms Letby worked at the Countess of Chester after she graduated as a children's nurse from the University of Chester in 2011 and went on to complete a work placement at Liverpool Women's Hospital as part of extra training.
