US internet giant Google has unveiled its first wearable watch-type devices, or smartwatches, running the Android Wear operating system.
The smartwatches were introduced at Google’s developer conference in San Francisco.
The first two models, made by South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, were released earlier.
Google officials say that smartphone users check their phones an average 125 times a day.
With a smartwatch, people will be able to look up information without taking out their phones.
In addition to displaying messages, the devices tell people the temperature and weather conditions and they also function as a pedometer.
Smartwatch users can also set alarms or play music on their devices using the voice recognition function.
Google also unveiled Android TV at the conference.
The new system will allow users to play games in conjunction with smartphones and tablet computers.
Company officials say they will work with firms such as Japan’s Sony and Sharp to put TV sets with the system into practical use as early as this autumn.
