Buskers in Dublin are to be subject to a street performers’ code.
Under the code street performers will no longer be allowed play between 11pm and 11am in most areas - except for Temple Bar where they will be allowed play up to 3am at weekends.
Volume will also be restricted, there will now be a number of amp-free zones.
In areas where amplifiers are allowed musicians will be asked to use a practice amp.
Drumkits are discouraged, and will have to be replaced with less noisy percussive instruments.
Sale of merchandise is also not permitted. Musicians will also have to know at least 20 songs to avoid repetition.
The code has been written by street performers themselves who say the vast majority of them are happy to adopt it.
The Dublin City businesses say they also welcome the code
While begging is illegal in Dublin, busking is not. Compliance to the code will be monitored over the next three months.
There is also a warning for repeat offenders: performers who don't adhere to the code will be subject to legal enforcement proceedings by Dublin City Council.
