A group of amateur cyclists are set to take on a 400km trip from Co Wexford to Scotland in memory of former RTÉ journalist, Nick Sheridan.

Mr Sheridan died at the age of 32 after suffering a brain aneurysm while out running in 2024.

The Wexford native's family, partner and friends have organised the 'Shore to Shore’ cycle in his memory.

The cycle begins with a swim at Curracloe Beach in his home county this morning and will conclude on the banks of Loch Lomond in Glasgow on Monday.

Mr Sheridan worked at RTÉ, including as the presenter of the news show for children and young people, News2Day, for two years before he moved to Glasgow in 2018.

In Scotland, he worked with STV and BBC Scotland.

He was also a successful author, having published a number of books for young people and he lectured at the University of the West of Scotland.

At the time of his death, tributes were paid on both sides of the Irish Sea including in the Scottish Parliament where then first minister Humza Yousaf described Mr Sheridan as an "extremely talented journalist and author".

This weekend’s cycle will see those taking part make their way up the east coast before travelling via ferry to Scotland and then continuing their journey to Loch Lomond, 50km north of Glasgow city.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Sheridan's brother, Brian, said: "Nick developed a real love and passion for the outdoors and this swim and cycle is a fitting way to bring together all the threads of Nick's life - both here in Ireland and in Glasgow."

The cycle is raising funds for the Rainbow Autism Unit in Scoil Mhuire, Co Wexford, and the Neurological Unit at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

More than €30,000 has already been donated.
