Longford town is among ten locations across the country, where new family resource centres will be established.
The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley, made the announcement earlier today.
Two weeks ago, Minister Foley met community groups and local politicians at the Attic House in Longford town, where she was given a presentation on the need for a centre in the town.
A needs assessment report published last July highlighted that Longford had one of the highest levels of deprivation in the country.
Other family resource centres will be established in Belmullet, Co Mayo, Nenagh in Co Tipperary, Enniscorthy in Co Wexford and Omeath in Co Louth.
Centres will also be set up in Doirí Beaga, Co Donegal, Drumkeeran, Co Leitrim, Nicholas Street, Limerick, Daingean Uí Chúis, Co Kerry and Walkinstown in Dublin.
The successful applicants will now be allocated core funding of €180,000 for each full year of operation.
Family resource centres provide a range of universal and targeted services and development opportunities that address the needs of families.
