Man who died after e-scooter collision with car in Waterford named

A man who died following a crash between the e-scooter he was driving and a car in Waterford City on Christmas Day has been named locally as Alan Walsh.

The collision, involving the e-scooter and a car, took place at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker's Hill) and Hennessy's Road yesterday at around 11am.

Mr Walsh, who was aged in his 40s and from St John's Park in the city, was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where he was later pronounced dead.

The father-of-two had worked in O'Sullivan's Bar & Restaurant in Waterford City.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 80s, was also brought to University Hospital Waterford, with injuries believed to be not life-threatening.

Gardaí said that no other injuries were reported.

The road where the collision took place was closed for several hours to allow for a technical examination of the scene to take place.

Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy's Road between 10.45am and 11.15am on Christmas Day.
