Several community groups have gathered for a rally in solidarity with delivery workers and other victims of racist attacks around Phibsborough in Dublin.
Nadette Foley, from the Phibsborough For All group, said a recent attack that left a young delivery worker in hospital with serious injuries is part of a pattern.
"We've had a number of attacks over the summer, some of which were reported to the guards, some of which weren't, and they weren't all on delivery drivers.
"And we've also had some violent racist attacks here at Doyle's Corner. So we've gathered together today to make a stand, and we've got a banner printed 'Stop racist attacks'.
"And we want to get more action.
"We want to get more courageous leadership from politicians and from community leaders," she said.
Green Party councillor Feljin Jose said the attacks on drivers are a huge issue and are not isolated.
"We've had several issues of attacks on cyclists, especially Deliveroo riders," he said.
"This has been going on for a while, and it needs to be dealt with urgently."
Mr Jose said more patrols by gardaí are needed along the canal, both on foot and on bicycles.
"There’s also a wider education issue," he added.
"A lot of the people who are attacked are migrants. They are targeting people from migrant backgrounds, especially Deliveroo drivers, who often are in that position and are quite vulnerable."
Mr Jose said a project to install streetlights has been delayed several times, adding that people need to feel safe in areas that are currently quite isolated.
Fundraiser for Deliveroo driver attacked along Royal Canal
The GoFundMe appeal for Brazilian delivery rider Andre Oliveira who suffered serious head injuries, a broken shoulder and fractures to his foot when he was attacked beside the Royal Canal in Dublin has reached almost €45,000.
The fundraiser was posted on behalf of his wife Camilla Baretto who told RTÉ Radio 1's Today with David McCullagh earlier this week: "I thought we were safe here, this is supposed to be a friendly country".
Comments on the fundraising page show messages of support from Irish people and members of the Brazilian community in Ireland.
The total amount of donations on Saturday afternoon stood at €43,617 out of a target of €45,000.
Mr Oliveira cannot work because of his injuries and his wife took time off work to care for him.
His e-bike, which he had bought shortly before the attack, was stolen in the incident and cost him €1,300.
