Thousands of people have marched in Dublin as part of a global day of solidarity with Palestine.
Today marks 78 years since the UN adopted the Partition Plan for Palestine, which saw the gradual withdrawal of British troops in the region and the creation of an Arab and Jewish states.
Months later what followed was what Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, when 750,000 predominantly Arab people were expelled from their homes while thousands were also killed.
Events have been taking place globally to mark it, with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign organising speakers in Dublin.
One of those speaking today was 18-year-old Miral Khaled Qudaih, a student who moved to Ireland from Gaza on a scholarship two months ago.
She told RTÉ that she had spent many months living in a tent before coming here.
"My family has been displaced and are in a tent, and winter is coming so they are struggling with the rain and cold there" she said.
Vice Chairperson of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign Fatin Al-Tamimi said that many Palestinians continue to find themselves displaced today.
"And it's still going on, you can see all the people in Gaza,
"More than 70,000 people were killed in this genocide while in the occupied West Bank more than 40,000 people have been displaced from their homes."
Last January, Israel's military carried out operation "Iron Wall" in which it evacuated refugee camps in the north of the West Bank.
Israel says the aim of the operation was to target Palestinian militants operating in the camps.
UNWRA described the action as the largest displacement of Palestinians since the Six Day War in 1967.
Somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 people left, and have not been able to return.
More than 170 organisations took part in the march which ran from the Garden of Remembrance to Leinster House, where People Before Profit TD was among those speaking along with actor Liam Cunningham.
Mr Boyd Barrett called for sanctions on Israel, telling RTÉ that "the €4 billion worth of trade being done between Ireland and Israel should be stopped".
"The Occupied Territories Bill should be passed, and all economic and political relations with this genocidal state that has committed these egregious crimes against the Palestinian people must be severed immediately."
