Thousands of people have marched in Dublin as part of a global day of solidarity with Palestine.

Today marks 77 years since the UN adopted the Partition Plan for Palestine, which saw the gradual withdrawal of British troops in the region and the creation of the Palestinian and Israeli States.

Months later followed what Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, when 750,000 predominantly Arab people were expelled from their homes while thousands were also killed.

Events have been taking place globally to mark it, with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign organising speakers in Dublin.

More than 170 organisations took part in the march which ran from the Garden of Remembrance to Leinster House, where speakers included organiser Fatin al Tamimi, Miral Khaled Qudaih who came to Ireland from Gaza two months ago, People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett and actor Liam Cunningham.

Among the issues people are calling for included the enactment of the Occupied Territories Bill, for the end of the US military's use of Shannon and for sanctions on Israel.
