Gardaí are investigating an assault in Kildare town during which a man was seriously injured.
The man, aged in his 20s, was found unresponsive at 3.15am with head injuries at Magee Terrace on the Dublin road.
He was taken to Naas General Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.
The scene of the incident, which is beside Kildare Garda Station, has been sealed off.
The garda forensic team is carrying out an examination this evening.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the area between 2am and 4am to contact them.
