Cork city's historic Shandon area is set to undergo major regeneration with the securing of €7 million in funding for the restoration of the historic Butter Market and Weighmaster's House.
The funding has been awarded to Cork City Council under the Government's THRIVE heritage revival scheme, co-funded by the European Union.
The Butter Market once housed the Cork Butter Exchange - the world's largest butter market in the 1860s.
This investment will see these buildings restored and repurposed as an enterprise and community hub.
Cork City Council's Chief Executive, Valerie O'Sullivan said the Shandon Exchange will act as a "catalyst sustainable growth, talent attraction and job creation" on Cork's northside.
The Shandon Area Renewal Association (SARA) welcomed the announcement.

James Nolan of SARA said the community is proud that they have been at the heart of shaping this project form the beginning and that they will have a role in its redevelopment and future operations.
The €7 million award represents the largest single investment in Shandon in generations, according to Cork City Council.
Construction is due to commence in August 2026, with the project scheduled for completion by February 2028.
It will be operated by Recreate Shandon CLG, who will manage the facilities and deliver programming for Shandon Exchange - Enterprise & Community Hub.
