A number of houses have been damaged in a fire in Co Cork.

Two homes suffered substantial damage, while another was evacuated after the blaze broke out in Upper Kilmoney in Carrigaline earlier today.

Cork County Fire Service units from Carrigaline, Crosshaven, and Midleton attended the scene, while a platform was also provided by firefighters from the Cork City Fire Brigade.

The city and Midleton units also provided water tankers due to low pressure in the area.

It is understood an oil tank was alight when the first firefighters arrived at the scene, while some gas cylinders had also exploded.

Chief Fire Officer at Carrigaline Station Chris Gledhill said that winds also made conditions more challenging.

He said that the blaze is now under control.

No injuries have been reported, while gardaí are now investigating the cause.

Early indications are that it started accidentally.
