The development company behind a new multi-million euro hotel in Gaoth Dobhair in Co Donegal have said they will tender for contracts soon.

Vesada Private said they hope to start rebuilding the vacant Óstán Ghaoth Dobhair early next year.

The famous hotel, overlooking Machaire Chlochair beach and the iconic boat wreck, Bád Eddie, has been derelict since 2015, but in 2020, the Vesada group announced plans to redevelop that hotel and another nearby one, Seaview Hotel.

Last year, Vesada Private was granted planning permission for the proposed development at Óstán Ghaoth Dobhair, which will include a 250-seater wedding venue/ballroom on the roof of the current hotel.

80 new bedrooms will also be constructed where the old ballroom was located, as well as 15 two-bedroom apartments and a new spa.

The Seaview hotel is almost complete with 64 rooms - an additional 27 rooms to the previous hotel.

Work will begin soon on two bars and a restaurant, and the hotel will open for Summer 2026.

When plans were first announced in 2020, the projected cost for both hotels was around €15 million.

However, Vesada said today that this will be higher now due to rising costs in building, etc.

The Vesada group have stated that both hotels will be public hotels and not International Protection Accommodation Service centres for asylum seekers.

At the moment, there are several people from Ukraine in the Seaview Hotel, but a spokesperson for Vesada said they will be leaving soon.
