The hearing of legal submissions on the issue of delay in the case of a member of An Garda Síochána accused of the possession of liquid ecstasy at a hotel in Co Kerry almost four years ago has been adjourned until next week.
Niall O'Connor, who worked as a garda in the Tralee area until his suspension in 2021, faces two charges.
He is charged that on 27 February 2021, he had in his possession a controlled drug, namely GBL (gamma-butyrolactone), in a hotel room in the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee.
He is also charged with possession of the same drug in the same hotel room, on the same date in 2021, for sale or supply.
District Court Judge David Waters was due to hear submissions from both State Solicitor for Kerry Diane Reidy and Mr O'Connor's solicitor Pádraig O'Connell on the issue of the delay.
However, Judge Waters said he wanted to read the written submissions and adjourned the case until next Wednesday, 22 January.
A previous hearing of the court heard that one of the charges is contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, possession for sale or supply, and this alleges Mr O'Connor had possession of between 18-23 doses of quantities between 0.5 to 1.5 millilitres of the drug GLA.
Members of the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission were present in court.
