Gardaí in Cork investigating an incident in which a 23-year-old Deliveroo delivery driver was seriously injured after his motorbike was rammed by a stolen car, have renewed their appeal for witnesses.
Brazilian man Alexandre Athos Pinheiro Teixeira sustained serious injuries to his left leg in the attack on Halloween night.
He was found by residents on the Woodvale Road, in Beaumont, who heard the impact and alerted the emergency services after they discovered him lying injured near his motorbike.
Speaking on social media from his hospital bed, the young man described the attack and the injuries he sustained.
He said he had given gardaí a statement on what had happened and hoped they would be successful in finding his attackers.
"It was [is] a dark time ahead but with God's help I will work [again].
"I will now spend the next six months without [work]. I'm not sure of anything.
"I am far from my family in an unknown country and unable to work. God willing we [I] will pass on this."
Gardái have confirmed that no arrests have been made to date, but their investigation is ongoing, including a technical examination of a burnt-out Skoda Kodiaq car, believed to have been used in the incident.
The vehicle had been stolen from Courtbrack near Blarney on 21 October.
The Skoda Kodiaq was found early on Friday 1 November burnt out in a field in Carrignavar, 12km from the city.
It is believed it was also involved in a number of other incidents, including the ramming of a marked garda patrol car on the Old Mallow Road at around 2am on Friday morning.
Two gardaí received minor injuries in that collision.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the Mahony, Beaumont, Old Mallow Road, Little Island or Carrignavar areas to contact them.
They are particularly anxious to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage that might assist them and can be contacted at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021 4522000.
