A €7 million investment has been announced, designed to boost cybersecurity innovation and entrepreneurship in Ireland over the next six years.
The Cyber Innovate programme at Munster Technological University (MTU) will create a stream of cybersecurity innovation graduates.
Each year, the initiative will provide 12-15 participants with skills to evaluate, select and validate ideas for new products and services which will contribute to the creation of new cybersecurity startups and university spin-outs.
Cyber Innovate will run over six years and each intake will work over ten months to identify problems and develop real world cybersecurity solutions.
Participants will be supported with a tax free €38,000 stipend and the €7 million investment is part of wider €30 million in funding from Enterprise Ireland in cluster development.
"The Cyber Innovate initiative isn't just an investment in MTU, it’s an investment in making Ireland a global leader in cyber security innovation and entrepreneurship," Dr Donna O’Shea, Chair of Cybersecurity in MTU said.
The Cyber Innovate programme will be launched later by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney.
A recent report from Cyber Ireland and Cyber Skills showed there is an opportunity to position Ireland as a global leader in cybersecurity and to grow the workforce to over 17,000 by 2030.
