A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a seizure of cocaine estimated to be worth more than €3m earlier this week.

Michael Clampett, 52, with an address in Aughrim, Co Wicklow, appeared before a special sitting of Bray District Court this morning.

He was charged with possession of drugs and with possession of drugs for sale or supply.

It followed the search of a van in Aughrim on Thursday. He was cautioned and charged at Crumlin Garda Station last night.

He was remanded in custody with consent to bail and he was also ordered to surrender his passport and any travel documents, as well as to sign on three times a week at Arklow Garda Station.

He must also lodge his own bond of €10,000 and two independent sureties must agree to provide the same sum.

Legal aid was granted and Mr Clampett is due to appear again before Arklow District Court on 7 February.

A second man in his 30s has been released from custody, pending a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
