An investigation is under way after the bodies of two people were discovered at a house in Granard in Co Longford.

The suspected cause of the deaths is understood to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Gardaí say there is no criminal investigation under way and a file is to be prepared for the Coroner's Court.

Local councillor PJ Reilly said the discovery was made on Saturday night at a house in a rural area near Granard town.

"It's very sad for the family. It's very unfortunate to happen in any area. You hear of carbon monoxide accidents happening, but hearing this brings home what has happened," he said.
