Pro-Israeli rally held outside Leinster House

Several hundred people are attending a rally outside Leinster House in support of Israel.

They include members of the Israeli and Jewish communities in Ireland.

Jackie Goodall of the Israel in Ireland Alliance told the rally that the spirit of the 1930's is present in Ireland and other countries.

She said Iran's calls to boycott Israel are reminiscent of calls to boycott Jews in Germany in the 1930s.

She called on the Irish Government to give unequivocal support to Israel.

Former Minister for Justice Alan Shatter addressed the rally and said Irish politicians need to stop lecturing Israel and to support it as it defends itself.

He said the Taoiseach and Tánaiste should immediately call for the release of all hostages in Gaza.

Others at the rally spoke of their fears for their families and friends in Israel.

The crowd later marched to the Israeli embassy where there was a Christian and Jewish service, with prayers said for victory for Israel, for peace and for innocent civilians in Gaza.
