Gardaí are continuing to question a man in Cork about an incident in which a 32-year-old man was stabbed during a row in the city centre.
The incident happened between 7.30pm and 8pm on Grand Parade yesterday.
A technical and forensic examination of the scene has been completed.
The man's condition is described as critical but stable.
He had been drinking on Grand Parade with another man and a women when a row developed between the two men.
Eyewitnesses say a passing nurse, doctor and another man who disarmed one of the men saved the life of the man who was stabbed.
The injured man was rushed to Cork University Hospital.
A man in his early 20s was arrested a short distance away from the scene.
He is being questioned by detectives at Bridewell Garda station and can be detained for 24 hours.
