Road reopens after bus crashes into bridge in Cork

The double decker bus which toppled over as it attempted to go under a railway bridge in Cork city has been recovered and removed from the scene and the road reopened to traffic.

Bus Éireann confirmed a full investigation is to be carried out into the circumstances surrounding this morning's incident.

The company said that a bus, that was not in service, collided with the railway bridge at lower Dublin Hill shortly after 9am.

There were no passengers on board and the driver was medically assessed at the scene, the company confirmed.

The 207A normally travels the route, served by a single deck vehicle.

Bus Éireann said it was "grateful for the assistance of the emergency services".

The bus was heading towards Blackpool when it struck the railway bridge and tipped over on its side.

Earlier, Iarnród Éireann said delays to the 7am Dublin Heuston to Cork and the 9.25am Cork to Dublin trains could be expected.
