Gardaí at Mayorstone in Limerick are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to two men receiving serious injuries in a stabbing incident in Thomondgate yesterday morning.

Both men continue to be treated for their injuries at University Hospital Limerick, where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

It is understood the investigation is confined to the two men involved, who may have been involved in a dispute in the hours leading up to what then turned into a violent incident.

Technical examinations of the houses where the two men were found at New Road and at Cross road have now been completed.

Gardaí are also hoping to interview people who may have witnessed what occurred yesterday between 2am and 3am or who have information about the background to the incident.

Gardaí will be interviewing both men once they are medically fit to do so.
