Gardaí in Carlow are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 13-year-old boy earlier today.
Emergency services were called to a housing estate in Carlow town just after 11am where the boy was found.
The child was taken by ambulance to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny but pronounced dead there a short time later.
It is believed he may have sustained fatal injuries in a fall and Gardaí are treating the incident as a tragedy.
The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.
