Independent Brian Stanley was also elected here on the eighth and final vote.

A former Mayor of Portlaoise, he was first elected to Portlaoise Town Council in 1999. He sat on Laois County Council from 2004 until his election to the Dáil in 2011. He twice contested unsuccessfully for a Dáil seat in 2002 and 2007, but has held his seat since 2011.

He resigned from Sinn Féin in October 2024, describing an inquiry into a complaint made against him by another party member as "seriously flawed."
