• Labour's Marie Sherlock set to 'hold off' Hutch - Bacik

"Marie Sherlock is looking like she will be on the case and will hold off the threat of Hutch's candidacy," says Labour leader Ivana Bacik.

Speaking on RTÉ's This Week, the recent elect for Dublin Bay South said that number crunchers in the RDS suggest that Labour candidate Marie Sherlock in Dublin Central will close the gap between herself and Independent candidate Gerard Hutch.

There is currently a difference of less than 500 votes between the two candidates for the fourth and final seat of Dublin Central.

"This contest has captured the imagination like no other in the country," she said.

"I have had so many messages from people who are not Labour voters telling us how much they want to see Marie win through here. So, it's certainly a knife edge, but we hope she will make it," Ms Bacik said.
