This constituency has increased from a four-seater in 2020, to a five-seater for the upcoming General Election, with much focus on who will take the extra seat.

In 2023, the Electoral Commission expanded the Dublin Mid-West constituency boundary to include the Tallaght-Fettercairn local electoral area, which consists largely of Fettercairn and City West.

The Tallaght-Fettercairn local electoral area has a population of 11,335 people, and was previously in Dublin South-West. In the local elections, Sinn Féin won approximately 60% of the vote in the Fettercairn local electoral area, and People Before Profit-Solidarity won 20%.

Among the key issues in Dublin Mid-West are housing, planning, transport, healthcare and school places.
