This constituency gained a fifth seat this time around and is home to some of the biggest names in Irish politics, with outgoing TDs including Jack Chambers (Fianna Fáil), Paul Donnelly (Sinn Féin), Roderic O'Gorman (Green Party) and Leo Varadkar (Fine Gael).

The constituency contains areas of Blanchardstown, Clonsilla, Ongar, Mulhuddart, Castleknock and Ashtown, and has seen some boundary changes also as per the nationwide boundary review - it had gained extra areas from Dublin North-West.
