• Gerard 'The Monk' Hutch confirms election bid

    Gerard 'The Monk' Hutch has confirmed that he will officially register as a General Election candidate today.

    Speaking to press in Dublin Airport, Mr Hutch said that he was "100 per cent" going to "go for it."

    As for his policies, Mr Hutch refused to comment.

    When asked whose seat is most at risk with his decision to run, Mr Hutch responded "I don't know, any seat will do me."

    Regarding the ongoing investigation into money-laundering in Spain, he said that he is "innocent" and said that he does not think that it will impact his ability to run as an election candidate.

    Mr Hutch is expected to run in the Dublin Central constituency.

    The other, confirmed candidates for Dublin Central are Janice Boylan (Sinn Féin), Clare Daly (Independents 4 Change), Paschal Donohoe (Fine Gael), Mary Fitzpatrick (Fianna Fáil), Gary Gannon (Social Democrats), Neasa Hourigan (Green Party), Mary Lou McDonald (Sinn Féin), Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin (People Before Profit-Solidarity), Marie Sherlock (Labour Party), Ian Noel Smyth (Aontú), Malachy Steenson (Independent).
