    Elections 2024: Kildare County Council round-up

    Long before returning officer Eoghan Ryan took to the podium to announce the names of the last councillors to be elected to Kildare County Council, the count had become the longest-running saga of the local election counts across the State.

    It was shortly before 8pm when the whole affair had been tidied up, when the last three councillors were elected to serve the Newbridge Local Electoral Area.

    Fianna Fáil's Noel Heavey was joined by party colleague Rob Power, the son of former TD and minister for state Sean Power, as well as the independent candidate Tom McDonnell to follow Tracey O'Dwyer and her namesake as well as party colleague Peggy O'Dwyer who were elected after the first count.
