Govt recognition of state of Palestine takes effect on 28 May - Tánaiste

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said the decision taken by Government to recognise the state of Palestine will formally take effect on 28 May.

He described this as "a historic moment for Ireland".

Speaking at Government Buildings, he said: "It is a clear and immutable statement of our deeply held belief that there can be no peace in the Middle East until the Israeli and Palestinian peoples alike enjoy the same rights and self-determination."
