• The Acting Director of Roads with Cork County Council said the priority today is focusing on assisting people impacted by the floods in the Midleton area.

Mark O'Sullivan said crews are on the ground and are in "assessment and clean up mode" and that multi-agency staff are also on the ground, including the fire service.

He said they were "proactive" the minute they got the weather alert on Monday to clear drains and gullies and flood barrier defences were put in place.

"Pumps were deployed in other areas to deal with any surface water flooding."

He said roads are not yet fully open with the N25 closed at Castlemartyr and he advised people to stay away from Midleton today.
