Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has not ruled out going into coalition with either Sinn Féin or Fine Gael.

He said the most important thing is that there's compatibility in the programme for government and, over the next few days, people will assess the situation.

He said he has heard the people speak today and he respects that. He said formation of a government is going to be very difficult.

He added it's an unusual election and there's a lot of volatility, saying people who couldn't get elected in the local elections are topping the poll in some instances.

He said it looks like Fianna Fáil will be the largest party but it's hard to call at this stage.
