A former senior official in the Department of Transport has been named as the Government's new housing czar.
Garret Doocey has been appointed to head the Housing Activation Office, which aims to remove barriers to the delivery of homes across the country.
Last year, NAMA boss Brendan McDonagh emerged as the Minister for Housing's preferred candidate for the role.
However, Mr McDonagh later withdrew himself from consideration amid sustained opposition criticism of his salary of more than €430,000, which he was set to retain in the new role.
This morning, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage named Mr Doocey, who was previously an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Transport, to head the office.
He has held a number of roles within the Department of Transport, and worked in the private sector prior to joining the Civil Service.
The Housing Activation Office was established in April 2025.
