Independent TD Barry Heneghan has voted against the Government on an opposition motion calling for an emergency payment for people with disabilities.

The Dublin Bay North TD is a member of the Regional Independent Group which is part of the coalition, although he has previously said that he would only support the Government on a "case by case basis".

He previously broke ranks with the Government last May in favour of a Sinn Féin bill in support of Palestine.

This evening the Dáil voted on a Social Democrats motion calling on the Government to introduce an emergency winter payment within a month of €400 for disabled people.

The party says that disabled people were €1,400 a year worse off after the Budget compared to 2025.

The Government won the vote 81-66 on its countermotion that stated that the coalition committed to introduce a permanent Annual Cost of Disability Support Payment.
