Taoiseach Micheál Martin has told the Dáil that the Government has not compromised its values in its engagement with the US.

He cited the example of Ireland's position on the Middle East saying there had been "significant pushback" to it.

Mr Martin said Ireland was recognised around the world in asserting its principled position.

He added that he agreed with the comments of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Davos on the application of "principle and pragmatism".

He was responding to Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger who again called on the Taoiseach not to visit President Trump in the White House.

She suggested that the Government's economic policy was so reliant on foreign direct investment that it was "morally bankrupt".

Ms Coppinger also said that Ice agents were acting like a "modern Gestapo".
