The Minister for Justice has said 25 sex offenders have been removed from the state as part of a garda operation to deport non nationals convicted of sex offences.
Operation Moonridge was set up last year to target people described as "highly dangerous non Irish nationals in the State."
It is being led by the Garda National Immigration Bureau and involves sharing information with other garda and State agencies including the Garda's Sex Offenders Management Intelligence Unit and units within the Department of Justice.
Minister Jim O'Callaghan said today that 14 non-EU nationals and 11 EU nationals have been deported and are all subject to exclusion periods from Ireland which he described as "significant progress".
